The Smart Cities initiative has helped local governments unify historically disjointed agencies and services, as well as the data they generate and collect.
Smart Cities 2.0 seeks to expand the concept. Information will not only be operationalized across departments and agencies, but eventually shareable beyond city boundaries. This will evolve to create smart counties and smart states, and will play a major role in overall smart government.
