What is Business Intelligence? At its most basic level, 'business intelligence" (BI) describes a process or system that allows a business (and its employees) to be more intelligent in its operation, through effective use of all of the data sources that impact the business. Traditional business intelligence and reporting systems have evolved into web and mobile-based systems and applications that go beyond simple reporting, dashboards and analytics. Modern business intelligence systems include advanced analytical functionality, predictive analytics and machine learning as well as advanced data integration and data cleansing capabilities.
With proper data management techniques and the right software, it's possible to provide a single, robust business intelligence framework which makes enterprise information readily available to executives, managers, and employees—even customers and business partners. Although the term business intelligence has been used for decades, its scope continues to evolve as new systems and tools are developed which expand the accessibility of BI to more users, both inside and outside of the enterprise.
