Amazon Athena
Query and Analyze your S3 data
Benefits of Amazon Athena
Access is direct (serverless): There are no servers to manage or data warehouses to set up. Payment is only for queries that you run, with no storage charges beyond S3. Data encryption is flexible, using either Server-Side AES-256 Encryption with Amazon S3 or AWS Key Management Service (KMS). Amazon Athena also scales automatically, with queries being executed in parallel even with large data sets and complex queries.
Amazon Athena is a query service that uses standard SQL to access data stored as objects on Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3).
It is based on Facebook Presto, an open-source distributed SQL query engine. It can parse unstructured, semi-structured, and structured data sets.
Data formats include:
- CSV
- JSON
- Avro
- Apache Parquet
- Apache ORC
- and others
Using Amazon Athena with Information Builders products requires the specification of connection and authentication information.
Using Amazon Athena in the Information Builders Data and Analytics Platform
Information Builders leverages AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) as well as S3 ACLs and bucket policies to control access to S3 data. Information Builders therefore provides secure, easy access to any S3 data store for data preparation, data quality, mastering, and ETL services.
Analytics and reporting users can do complex analysis, joins, and create interactive visualizations using S3 data that can be saved, shared, and published. An unlimited number of dashboards, reports, charts, and documents can also be created using Amazon S3.
