Kansas Higher Ed Reporting System: Protecting Privacy in Public Reporting

This session will highlight actionable best practices for publishing dashboard reports while protecting personally identifiable information (PII), compliant with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Using published recommendations from the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), the Kansas Board of Regents deploys various techniques including a tailored and dynamic approach for the masking of small cells. We'll also discuss database architecture, parameter validation, and statistical disclosure control, and will demonstrate multiple levels of protection in both drill-down and tabular reports.
