Florida Atlantic University: Maximizing Performance Based Funding in Higher Education
A Case Study From Florida Atlantic University
Like many higher education institutions, Florida Atlantic University (FAU) relies on both public funding as well as tuition to support its mission. However, public funding rubrics and models are continually changing. Across the country, contact hours and FTEs are partially being replaced by outcome metrics, including graduation rate, employment, and student success in the classroom. FAU, like many public higher education institutions, had to find ways to improve student outcomes in a changing environment. To increase student success, retention, and persistence, FAU embraced a culture of data-driven decision-making, so staff, faculty, and administrators can monitor whether goals are being met as well as the progress towards systemic goals and measures.
This presentation will explore FAU's journey to define and map metrics, develop dashboards, discuss the challenges encountered, and the benefits realized by implementing business intelligence to support its Performance-Based Funding solution - and to become the top-performing institution under the State of Florida’s new performance-based funding formulas.
