Overview of WebFOCUS Developer Studio Editions

Following is a summary of the available WebFOCUS Developer Studio editions and their capabilities as of Release 5.

WebFOCUS Developer Studio Edition

This is the fullest edition of Developer Studio, which provides access to all available features and development scenarios:

1. Project-based development: Allows development of self-service applications on the local machine that can be deployed as self-service Web-based applications and includes Maintain for development of data maintenance applications.

   Features include:

   • Report Painter – a robust graphical tool for report generation
   • Resource Layout Painter for creating HTML pages that incorporate reports graphs, images, etc.
   • FML Painter for financial reporting
   • Graph Assistant for creating boardroom-quality business graphs
   • Source control for proper group development
   • Access to all available adapters



2. Develop directly against WebFOCUS Reporting Servers (Develop On Server) that are available in the configured WebFOCUS environments. The Reporting Servers can be on any supported platform, such as Windows, Unix, Unix Sysem Services (USS) or MVS.
3. Complete access to MR development and MR administration, including the User Administration ability to use HTML tools such as HTML Report assistant and HTML Graph Assistant, Report Painter, Resource Layout Painter, FML Painter, integration with BID and ReportCaster.

WebFOCUS Developer Studio Power Reporter Edition

This edition provides a Windows-based toolset for power users and developers, and allows local, stand-alone project-based development as well as development directly against WebFOCUS Reporting Servers (Develop on Server) that are available in the configured WebFOCUS environments.

The Reporting Servers can be on any supported platform, such as Windows, Unix, USS or MVS.

This edition contains tools available in the Developer Studio edition except the options to perform MR development and administration. It does not offer Maintain development.

WebFOCUS Developer Studio Managed Reporting Developer Edition

This is a new edition available as of Release 5.2.3, and it is targeted at MR Domain Administrators and MR Developer user types. It allows full MR development using robust tools that are available with Developer Studio, such as Resource Layout Painter, Report Painter, FML Painter and many more tools and features.

This edition does not provide MR administration and does not allow local, stand-alone project- based development.

WebFOCUS Developer Studio Network Edition
