Network Version of WebFOCUS Developer Studio

By Dimitris Poulos

The Network Version of WebFOCUS Developer Studio that became available with release 5.3.2 enables end users to use the product without having to install it on their development PCs.

This new offering allows users to access a central installation of Developer Studio without having to install the product or required components such as a Web server or application server on their desktops. (Java™ is required on the end user's PCs for tools that require Java processing.) The network version of Developer Studio is a "thinner client" geared to power users that nevertheless offers all of the same features as if the product were installed on their desktops.

End users access and use Developer Studio through a zero-footprint deployment by connecting to the computer in which the product is installed. This is similar to the way users access WebFOCUS from a Web browser. Accessing Developer Studio in this way enables customers to maintain a pure Web development environment without giving up the many robust features that Developer Studio offers.

Configuration and administration are centralized, and this makes it easy to perform upgrades and substantially reduces the total cost of ownership. The network version of Developer Studio is offered in blocks of 10-user licenses at a discounted price.

How It Works

An administrator installs the network version of Developer Studio on a central machine and configures it for remote user access. The administrator has the ability to fully customize the product for user deployment. The network version of Developer Studio also lets administrators control user access. Global pre-configured environments for all users can be created, but it is also possible to deploy unique configurations as needed for every user or group of users.
