Dashboard User Management in 5.3

By Emma Schwarz

The Business Intelligence Dashboard in WebFOCUS 5.3 gives an administrator the ability to perform user management for Dashboard from the View Builder. If you are familiar with the View Builder, you know that it is a Web-based front-end that makes it easy to build and update Dashboard public and group views (see Screen 1). With the release of WebFOCUS 5.3, an administrator will also be able to manage Dashboard user views in the View Builder.

Screen 1

Managing user views was the subject of one of my previous WebFOCUS Newsletter articles. In that article, I described how a My View is created, and also how to manually change the view inheritance for a user. Beginning in 5.3, manual operations have been made obsolete, and all of the capability is available from a View Builder page that presents view information for all Dashboard users (see Screen 2).

Screen 2

From this page an administrator may scan a list to see which users have connected to the Dashboard, who is currently connected and which Dashboard view the user has inherited. To make changes to a user’s view, an administrator can easily select a user from the list and choose one of the available actions to perform: edit content, reassign to a different view, or remove the personal page.

This feature enhances Dashboard by giving developers a secure and effortless way to perform functions that had to be done manually in previous releases. With the addition of Manage Users, the View Builder in 5.3 enables administration of all three types of Dashboard views: public, group, and personal.
