A Healthy Dose of WebFOCUS
World-acclaimed NYU Medical Center has shifted its operations to replace an existing paper-based process with Information Builders’ WebFOCUS business intelligence solution, which delivers financial reports via the Web. It’s anticipated that the move will cut the Medical Center’s financial reporting
time in half.
Currently, printing is outsourced at great cost, then reports are sent back to NYU Medical Center for collation and distribution. Delivery of the reports via WebFOCUS will make them available online just days after the final numbers are calculated – as opposed to three to four weeks. And the
intranet-based reporting application, dubbed the NYU Medical Report Dashboard, will allow managers and department heads to quickly see financial information relevant to their areas, rather than having to wait several weeks. The Dashboard will be available to 400 users across the organization whose goal is to deliver
all of its 1,800-plus monthly financial reports via WebFOCUS.
New York City-based Mount Sinai NYU Health has successfully deployed a prototype application that delivers critical information to executives at their five hospital campuses – cutting costs while enabling better decision-making.
Mount Sinai NYU Health, which enjoys an international reputation for top-quality patient care and leading-edge clinical research, wanted an Executive Desktop to bring the organization’s key performance indicators to senior executives in a Web-enabled, self-servicing modality. Mount Sinai NYU Health
selected WebFOCUS for its ability to deliver data and query capabilities via the Web and to perform conditional formatting of data, which directs communication

Union Pacific on the Right Track
Tracking 6,886 locomotives, more than 300,000 freight cars, 4,900 tractors, 19,000 trailers, and 48,000 employees requires a diverse and substantial IT infrastructure, to say the least. Union Pacific Corporation, one of America’s top transportation companies, turned to WebFOCUS to help tackle its
many reporting needs throughout the enterprise – from financial analysis to cargo tracking.
Jerry Lucas, assistant vice president of Strategic Initiatives for Union Pacific said, “Union Pacific needed to deliver information to potentially over 48,000 users. We needed a solution that was secure, flexible, scalable, and could adapt to the current infrastructure that was in place at the
railroad. We conducted a 90-day proof of concept with WebFOCUS that included running WebFOCUS on mainframe, UNIX, and NT with access to over six different databases. WebFOCUS worked as advertised and our decision was made.”
