Customers' Unique Technology Apps Headed for Smithsonian

Six Information Builders customers were honored by the Chairmen's Committee of the Computerworld Honors Program for their unique information technology applications. The awards were presented at a special ceremony in San Francisco's City Hall.

The committee recommended these applications for inclusion in the prestigious Smithsonian Institution's Permanent Research Collection, and formally presented them to a select group of the world's leading academic and research institutions – including the likes of Harvard, MIT and Stanford. Each year the Computerworld Honors Program, established by the leaders of the information technology industry, honors the achievements of those who have used technology for the benefit of mankind. The award is designed to enhance the Smithsonian Institution information technology archives and to recognize each nominee's achievement.

Nominated by Gerald D. Cohen, president and CEO of Information Builders, the applications utilize Information Builders' WebFOCUS solution, and will become part of a collection that includes the year's most innovative technology applications from 39 states and 28 countries.

"Information Builders is proud to see these laureates recognized for making such valuable contributions to society through technology," said Cohen.

The Information Builders 2002 Laureates are:

ArvinMeritor, a $7 billion global supplier of integrated systems, modules and components for the motor vehicle industry, utilizes WebFOCUS to addresses a wide range of reporting needs, including accounting and financial reports, task forecasting, customer service, end-of-month billing, quality control, shipping, engineering and purchasing. Geronimo, an employee relations service, has succeeded in developing an innovative and highly flexible payroll system, based on an intelligent workbench supporting increased flexibility and individualization of employee benefits by enabling payroll specialists to define payroll and benefits regulations – setting the stage for further innovation in the years ahead. The use of WebFOCUS technology has allowed Geronimo many benefits, including excellent application performance, time savings, complete scalability and shorter application maintenance cycles.

Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) utilizes WebFOCUS for its innovative BureauNet Project for the Federal Insurance Mitigation Administration (FIMA) and National Flood Insurance Program Bureau (NFIP). The solution, implemented by Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC), revolutionized the way information is delivered to disaster responders through a Web-based system powered by Information Builders technology. CSX Transportation, the largest railroad in the eastern United States, has leveraged WebFOCUS capabilities to consolidate their disparate signal-trouble ticket systems into one Web-based system. This has led to an enhanced ability to more effectively respond to signal incidents, thereby enhancing railroad operations and safety.

Caja Espana, one of Spain's leading financial institutions, devised the Commercial Information System (CIS) project, powered by Information Builders' business intelligence technology, WebFOCUS, to meet customer demands and improve its relationship with the most profitable customer segments.

Bank of Montreal, Canada's first bank and one of the largest financial institutions in North America, created WebMPM utilizing WebFOCUS. This electronic reporting system gives the bank's finance staff information at their fingertips. Users are able to drill down and produce consistent, accurate reports in a manner of minutes.
