Watching the New York City Marathon on a recent Sunday morning it occurred to me how much the race resembles life as we know it. We've become a society of competitive super achievers. We're all in the fast lane sprinting - and panting, charging ahead, racing toward the finish line. Makes no difference
who we are or where – track or field, car, train, bus or plane, shopping, visiting friends or a remote office – everyone's dashing to some destination, everyone wants to know 'the score' and everyone is in it to win.
The good news in this increasingly mobile world is that smart technology is at our heels, catapulting us to our goals and keeping today's armies of mobile workers unplugged yet 'in the know', so whatever business we're in we can conduct business on the run.
The cover line says it all: Wireless Information Delivery – Any Device, Anywhere. The need for red-hot information and the desire to get it on the spot have spawned an extraordinary surge in wireless communication. Our newest Web-based business intelligence solution, called TellMe By Email, is right
in step with the demands of mobile workers looking to retrieve corporate data – wherever and whenever they want, from practically any mobile device and using a familiar and reliable medium.
You may be wondering, where did 'business intelligence' come from and what exactly is the relevance to your organization? Ask Howard Dresner, the revered Gartner Group analyst who coined the term. Or better yet check out the interview, where he gets us thinking about laying out a 'roadmap' for
intelligently managing information by considering where we are, where we want to be and what tools, technologies, storage strategies and such will get us there.
Our own Kevin Mergruen, vice president of the ERP Solutions Division, shares his vision for ERP-based business intelligence, and gives us the lowdown on the recently introduced WebFOCUS i-vision analytical application that delivers critical job-related information at Internet speed.
With business moving at lightning speed, we cannot settle for anything less than instant access to information that brings about quick, measurable results and improves our quality of life. As you will see `in these pages, The New York City Department of Health, First Hawaiian Leasing, and
telecommunications providers Sprint Global Connection Services and Venezuela's CANTV all put our Web business intelligence solutions to work in their organizations. The results speak for themselves: Establishments that successfully manage their information – and transform that information into intelligence – clearly
are the winners.
