Middleware – the Plumbing of Your Information Systems

iWay Middleware connects enterprise systems and data sources with each other without fanfare.

Middleware is a general term for any programming that serves to "glue together" or mediate between two separate and usually already existing programs. A common application of middleware is to allow programs written for access to a particular database (such as DB2 or SQLServer) to access other databases (such as VSAM, IMS, Oracle, Adabas), or even applications such as SAP without the need for custom coding.

Middleware is commonly known as the "plumbing" of an information system as it routes data and information transparently between different back-end data sources and end-user applications. It's not sexy – it usually doesn't have much if any visible front-end of its own – but it is an essential component of any IT infrastructure as it allows disparate systems to be joined together in a common framework.

Under our iWay Software brand, Information Builders provides middleware solutions that accelerate business integration by simplifying it dramatically – eliminating custom integration code, and replacing it with the straightforward assembly and configuration of off-the-shelf components. iWay's SOA Middleware Suite provides everything necessary to achieve real-time, near-real-time, or batch integration more quickly and easily than competing tools and the "roll-your-own" approach.

iWay Software provides standard connections to over 300 back-office systems and data sources, enabling organizations to quickly and easily leverage technologies such as IBM's Websphere™, XML, and Java™.
