Over the past several years, Information Builders began a number of programs to help our customers develop a strategy for business intelligence (BI) within their organizations. These programs have been consolidated into a single offering. The Solution Assessment is designed to help our customers benefit from more effective use of our technology.

Program Benefits

Solution Assessment provides a number of advantages for customers. The program:

  • Examines key information requirements and applications throughout the customer's organization
  • Does not require a major time commitment, as the on-site process is usually completed in one or two days
  • Creates a document that outlines the organization's needs and provides a comprehensive set of recommendations to address those needs
  • Identifies areas where better information would drive the customer's business
  • Provides business value and return on investment (ROI) opportunities

Understanding Customer Needs

To better understand the customers' needs and challenges, Information Builders conducts three types of interviews with their technical staff, business analysts, and executive management:

  • The technical interview – Provides an understanding of the customer's technical environment – current applications, databases, platforms, the user community, and IT objectives – and gives the customers information about our technology and how it would fit into their infrastructure
  • Business analyst interview – Provides information about the kinds of information, applications, and types of tools they use; the challenges they face, etc. This interview helps Information Builders understand the pains these analysts currently experience
  • Executive interviews – Provides an understanding of how executives make decisions with the information available to them and uncovers any problems they currently experience. We learn their business strategy and look for any opportunities to enhance their decision-making

The Solution Assessment

Based on information from the interviews, the Solution Assessment is developed and delivered at the end of the process. The assessment includes critical items such as:

  • A guide to establishing success criteria and measures
  • How to enable and align the customer's focus
  • What the return on investment would be
  • How to organize resources
  • How to incorporate quality and control principles
  • Best Practices for implementing strategy, getting to market quickly, and reducing risk
