2015 Gartner Magic Quadrant for BI and Analytics Platforms -- Information Builders is a Leader Again!
The Gartner 2015 Magic Quadrant for BI and analytics is out, and Information Builders has been recognized as a leader once again! While we are pleased to be positioned in the leadership quadrant, we are especially proud of the explicit recognition of our unique strengths and differentiators. Information Builders is described as a vendor that differentiates itself in the area of pervasiveness – disseminating information and providing decision support to thousands of operational users, as well as in the growing segment of those using BI for customer-facing applications. This is consistent with our philosophy that everyone in the extended enterprise is a decision maker and that high ROI is achieved only when you make BI pervasive and accessible to everyone, both inside and outside of the enterprise (i.e. when you make BI inclusive for partners, suppliers, and customers too). When organizations reach this level of adoption, an inflection point occurs in their performance and financial results.
Gartner also recognized the breath of functionality that we offer, which truly allows us to tailor BI to the needs of every stakeholder and make it pervasive.
There are many other points that I wish to discuss, but these are the most important and I will put them into the context of our vision for the future. In my opinion, this year’s Magic Quadrant is more balanced than previous years and reflects more accurately the BI market place. In particular, the ratings for data discovery vendors came down, which indicates that growth and broader adoption revealed some technical weaknesses and gaps in functionality. Conversely, the number of other niche vendors has gone up as they have caught up with the trends. As a result we see a clustering of vendors towards the middle in the Magic Quadrant, which begs the question: What is going to be the next big thing? What comes after analytics and data discovery, the two topics that have dominated the BI discussion threads for the last five years?
It is fair to say that the BI industry has done plenty for the analysts and equipped them with easy-to-use tools. And it is fair to say that enterprises are very good at performing analytics. But to make analytics impactful, the insights have to be operationalized to provide BI consumers with information at the point of making decisions. Insights from analytics reveal opportunities. Only by operationalizing those insights and changing the behavior of the employees, partners, and customers will the opportunities be monetized. Within this context a platform that (1) delivers pervasive BI to thousands of users, (2) has the flexibility to build information apps for decision making tailored for each particular situation and each stakeholder need, (3) is cost effective, and (4) is fast to develop and deploy, has the potential to lead and break the current adoption rate of BI within enterprises. It is time to make BI truly pervasive.
