We recently kicked off a blog series showcasing how individual Information Builders customers are utilizing our BI platform to improve decision-making throughout the organization. In our second installment, we’re highlighting how Tara Olsen, a business intelligence developer at Halifax Health, and her team have revolutionized the hospital’s reporting environment and gained competitive advantage through better access to real-time information.

As Tara elaborates in the video, Halifax originally relied on MetaTech reports, which were extremely time intensive to prepare and also required developers to be highly skilled in analytics. As a result of these limitations, the hospital generally used consultants to compile its reports rather than producing them in-house.

Switching to WebFOCUS enabled Halifax to address all of these issues. Not only can Tara and her team now handle all of the reporting internally, they are also able to obtain information much more quickly and disseminate that intelligence throughout the hospital so that all departments can make decisions based on real-time data. This is a particularly crucial benefit for Halifax’s Emergency Department. As Tara states, given the frequency with which things change in trauma services even a three-hours old report is outdated so up to the minute information is vital for physicians and staff alike to provide the best quality care.

In addition to these benefits, Halifax is also drawing on its enhanced reporting capabilities to gain competitive advantage. For example, producing reports analyzing how individual departments are performing as compared to their competitors and making operational improvements as needed.

Take a look at the video to hear more Halifax’s experiences in Tara’s own words, and check back for future posts on other customer successes.
