Information Builders' Response to Part 1194 of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation ActiWay Software
The iWay Software family of products constitutes what is commonly known as "middleware" technology. Middleware provides an invisible connection or bridge between the technology with which a user interacts (i.e., the "front end" of a system) and the stored data or information which the user is seeking (i.e., the "back end"). The provisions of Section 508 of the Electronic and Information Technology Accessibility Standards apply to the components of information technology with which people interact the software, hardware, and associated peripheral equipment that a person might see, touch, feel, or hear.
As middleware operating behind the scenes, iWay Software products are the exclusive domain of developers and system administrators who set up and tune the individual implementation. Therefore, iWay Software products are transparent to end users who benefit from the IT application. iWay Software products neither interfere with nor override any of the functions or capabilities of accessibility tools being used with the front-end components of the application.
